What to Expect On Your First Visit

Patients may be nervous about their first visit at hospital. We understand these worries and want to ease the anxiety felt by patients and their loved ones. We recommend for all visits that patients have a friend, family member or caregiver accompany them. Many times another person can help with writing down information, listening for specific instructions and asking questions that the patient may not have considered. They also are a great support system throughout treatment and beyond.

Most often at your first visit you will:

  1. Check in at the front desk. You will be asked to show your photo ID and health insurance card and make a co-payment, if needed.
  2. Fill out and sign any needed paperwork. Please bring your completed health history record with you for your first or repeated consultation.
  3. One of our healthcare assistant will have your vital signs checked. Vital signs include your temperature, pulse, breathing rate, blood pressure, height, weight etc.
  4. Next you will meet with the health care team. Besides your doctor, you may also speak with a nurse, social worker, nurse practitioner, physician assistant and/or other doctors.
  5. Finally you talk with your doctor to discuss your plan of care and any other questions you have.
  6. If required after the consultation you may need to visit our modern diagnostic area for investigations.

What to Expect During A Hospital Stay

You might be a bit intimated or scared on your first hospital stay, which is completely normal. We try to ease out such emotions on your visit. However, learning about what to expect during your stay may ease your mind whether it’s for a planned procedure or an unexpected hospital admission.

  1. On your admission a nurse or doctor you will ask for your medical history involving any drug or food allergy, past medication etc which are recorded in your patient file.
  2. Make sure to come to hospital in loose and comfortable attire. For your comfort you can carry non-skid slippers and change of clothes. For surgical procedures, robes will be provided before the surgery.
  3. Our hospital has the facility of single - patient rooms (Deluxe Rooms, kindly inform your choice at the time of admission at the reception). If you are admitted in a room where other patients are also there then hospital staff will make sure that your privacy is protected at all times with curtains in between patients of movable blinds in between beds.
  4. Healthcare is a team effort, which involves your treating doctor, rotating resident doctors and nurses, nursing assistants, paramedical staff, housekeeping staff and you (and your relatives). Feel free to ask everyone their name and designation who comes to assist. You have a right to know who is involved in your care.
  5. Medical tests help healthcare providers understand what’s going on in your body. For some tests like X-rays, CT (computed tomography, or CAT) scans, ultrasounds, and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) which usually can not be provided bedside, you may be asked to move for such investigations to our modern diagnostic area. Each of these tests allows the medical team to visualize specific parts within the body in detail.
Blood and urine tests are performed bedside. A nurse may ask you to provide a urine sample. Technicians may come to your bedside to draw blood from your arm.
  6. After your treatment is complete discharge planning begins almost immediately.
