When breasts affect daily life
Heavy, uneven or changing breasts can cause physical pain and emotional distress
Large breasts often lead to chronic back, neck and shoulder pain. Sagging or asymmetry after weight loss or pregnancy can make clothing fit poorly and lower confidence. Some patients need reconstruction after cancer surgery. You may worry about recovery time, cost or visible scars.
-
Back and neck pain
Heavy breasts pull on the spine and shoulders, causing daily aches that limit activity and sleep.
-
Skin irritation
Folds under large breasts trap sweat, leading to rashes and infections that need repeated treatment.
-
Clothing and confidence
Difficulty finding bras and clothes that fit can make work and social situations uncomfortable.
-
Post-cancer changes
After mastectomy, the chest wall may feel unbalanced, affecting posture and body image.
-
Recovery worries
Fear of long downtime, visible scars or complications can delay a decision for months or years.
Breast reduction surgery is performed for both cosmetic and medical purposes, including relief from physical discomfort such as back pain.
Why Jaipur Hospital
You want relief from pain or embarrassment without risking a long absence from work or hidden costs.

Frequently asked questions
Questions patients ask about breast surgery
Which problems are assessed under breast surgery?
In short
At Jaipur Hospital, our surgical team assesses a wide range of breast conditions. These include cosmetic concerns such as small breast size, sagging after pregnancy or weight loss, and asymmetry. Medical problems assessed include overly large breasts causing back, neck, or shoulder pain, skin irritation under the breast fold, and difficulty with exercise. We also evaluate patients needing reconstruction after mastectomy for cancer or trauma, and men with gynaecomastia requiring reduction.
In detail
The assessment covers both functional and aesthetic issues. For breast augmentation, we review volume loss or congenital asymmetry. For reduction, we document physical symptoms like chronic pain, bra strap grooving, and intertrigo. For mastopexy, we measure the degree of ptosis and skin envelope quality.
Reconstruction planning depends on cancer stage, radiotherapy history, and tissue availability. Evidence shows that breast reduction is performed for both cosmetic and medical purposes, such as dealing with physical discomfort like back pain. Each problem requires a tailored surgical approach using implants, fat transfer, tissue rearrangement, or autologous flaps.
A common belief
Many people think breast surgery is only for cosmetic enlargement.
What actually happens
In reality, a large portion of our work is reduction for chronic back pain or reconstruction after mastectomy. These are functional surgeries that improve daily life.
Your next step at Jaipur Hospital
Your first step is a detailed consultation where the surgeon examines you, discusses your goals, and explains which procedure matches your anatomy. You will receive a typical price range of ₹80,000 to ₹2,50,000 and information on hospital stay, usually daycare or one night. If you have insurance, bring your policy documents for the team to check coverage criteria.
How will the doctor decide which tests I need before breast surgery?
In short
At Jaipur Hospital, the surgeon orders tests based on your age, medical history, and the planned procedure. Routine pre-operative tests typically include blood counts, coagulation profile, blood sugar, and screening for infections. Women over 40 or those with risk factors usually need a mammogram or ultrasound before surgery. If reconstruction is planned after cancer, additional imaging like MRI or CT may be required. The anaesthesia team reviews all results to ensure fitness for general anaesthesia.
In detail
Test selection follows standard safety protocols. Evidence supports enhanced recovery pathways that include preoperative optimisation. For implant surgery, baseline imaging helps detect occult lesions. For reduction, documenting breast volume supports insurance claims when medical necessity is required.
Certain insurance companies may require specific criteria such as medical necessity documentation and pre-authorisation. The in-house diagnostic laboratory and imaging at Jaipur Hospital allows convenient same-day testing. The surgeon tailors the test panel to your individual risk profile rather than using a fixed checklist.
A common belief
Patients often expect the same tests as a friend.
What actually happens
But a 25-year-old having augmentation needs different screening than a 50-year-old having reduction with a family history of breast cancer. The surgeon customises the list for your safety and insurance requirements.
Your next step at Jaipur Hospital
You will receive a test list at the consultation. Most blood tests are done at our in-house laboratory. Imaging is scheduled at our radiology department. Results are usually available within 24 to 48 hours. The anaesthesia team reviews them before surgery day. If any value is abnormal, the surgeon discusses it with you and may delay surgery for optimisation.
How soon should I expect improvement after breast surgery?
In short
After breast surgery at Jaipur Hospital, you will notice initial changes once swelling reduces, but final results take several months. Most patients return to desk work in one to two weeks. Swelling and bruising improve over the first few weeks. You will begin to see final results around three months, with subtle changes continuing up to 12 months. Scars fade to thin lines over about one year.
In detail
Recovery follows a typical timeline. In the first couple of days, rest is essential. You wear a surgical bra for three to four weeks, then transition to a soft sports bra. Walking starts the night of surgery to reduce swelling and clot risk.
Upper-body stretching begins at three weeks. Heavy lifting is avoided for four to six weeks. Evidence shows most people are ready to drive and return to light work within one week, provided they are off prescription pain medication.
Nipple sensation may fluctuate for a few months. Asymmetry during healing is normal as each breast heals at its own rate. Your surgeon will see you every one to two weeks for at least a month to monitor progress.
A common belief
A common mistake is expecting the finished look right after the bandages come off.
What actually happens
Swelling, firmness, and scar maturation take time — patience is part of the process.
Your next step at Jaipur Hospital
Plan for at least one to two weeks off desk work and four to six weeks before heavy activity. Keep follow-up appointments so the team can check healing and remove any drains or bandages. If you have concerns about your recovery pace, contact the hospital.
How can I decide whether to seek advice about breast augmentation?
In short
Consider seeking advice about breast augmentation at Jaipur Hospital if you are bothered by small breast size, volume loss after pregnancy or weight loss, or asymmetry that affects your confidence. You should be in good general health, have realistic expectations, and understand that implants are not lifetime devices — future surgery may be needed. A consultation will clarify if augmentation suits your goals.
In detail
Augmentation uses implants or fat transfer to increase volume. Implants come in saline or silicone gel; silicone dominates the market for its feel. Evidence shows submuscular placement lowers capsular contracture risk compared with subglandular placement, and textured or polyurethane-coated implants may reduce contracture rates.
Saline implants avoid silicone exposure if rupture occurs. Fat transfer uses your own tissue but has limits on volume increase. Risks include capsular contracture (overall incidence around 10.6% in studies), infection, implant rupture, and changes in nipple sensation.
The surgeon will discuss incision options, implant profile, and long-term monitoring. Alternatives like external prostheses or accepting your natural shape are also valid choices.
- Risks include capsular contracture (overall incidence around 10.6% in studies), infection, implant rupture, and changes in nipple sensation.
A common belief
Many people think implants last forever.
What actually happens
They don't — most women need revision surgery at some point. Understanding that upfront changes how you weigh the decision.
Your next step at Jaipur Hospital
If you are unsure, book a consultation at Jaipur Hospital. The surgeon will examine you, show before-and-after examples, and explain the typical cost range of ₹80,000 to ₹2,50,000. Bring photos of your desired look. No decision is made on the day.
How will appearance, function, and realistic expectations be discussed?
In short
At Jaipur Hospital, your surgeon will discuss appearance, function and realistic expectations during the consultation. They will examine your breast shape, skin quality and symmetry, explain what each procedure can achieve, and show typical outcome photos. The discussion covers scar patterns, sensation changes and long term results.
In detail
Evidence indicates final results appear around three months after surgery with subtle changes continuing for up to twelve months. Scars are swollen initially but typically fade to thin, slightly discoloured lines over a year. Incision location helps conceal scars but they may always be noticeable.
You may experience increased or decreased nipple sensation for the first few months, and shooting pains or tingling as nerves heal. Asymmetry can occur as each breast heals at a different rate. For breast reduction, the surgeon discusses relief of back, neck and shoulder pain.
For reconstruction, the goal is symmetry with the opposite breast and restoring contour. The surgeon will explain limitations such as inability to perfectly match the natural breast, potential need for revision surgery, and impact on future breastfeeding. You are encouraged to ask questions and express your priorities.
A common belief
Many patients expect perfect symmetry or no visible scars.
What actually happens
Evidence shows scars fade but may remain noticeable, sensation changes are common, and each breast heals at its own pace. The surgeon will be honest about these realities so you can make an informed decision.
Your next step at Jaipur Hospital
Before surgery, you will have a detailed consent discussion covering expected appearance, functional outcomes and possible complications.
You will receive written information about recovery including wearing a surgical bra for three to four weeks, showering after two days, and avoiding heavy lifting for four to six weeks. Follow up visits occur every one to two weeks for at least a month.
Which symptoms should prompt me to see a specialist for breast surgery?
In short
You should see a specialist at Jaipur Hospital if you have persistent back, neck, or shoulder pain linked to large breast size, deep bra strap grooves on your shoulders, or recurring skin rashes and infections under the breast fold. Other reasons include significant asymmetry affecting clothing fit, sagging breasts with nipples pointing downward, loss of volume after pregnancy or weight loss, or a desire for reconstruction after mastectomy. Men with enlarged breast tissue causing discomfort or embarrassment should also seek evaluation.
In detail
These symptoms indicate functional impairment or significant aesthetic concern that surgery can address. Evidence confirms breast reduction surgery can be performed for medical purposes like dealing with physical discomfort such as back pain.
Chronic pain that limits exercise or daily activity, intertrigo that fails conservative care, and gynaecomastia persisting beyond puberty are clear indicators. For reconstruction, timing depends on cancer treatment completion. The surgeon correlates your symptoms with physical findings to determine if surgical intervention is appropriate versus non-surgical management.
A common belief
People often tolerate pain for years, thinking it is normal or that surgery is only for looks.
What actually happens
But reduction surgery is recognised as a medical procedure for symptom relief. Waiting does not improve structural problems like ptosis or macromastia.
Your next step at Jaipur Hospital
Make a list of your symptoms, their duration, and any treatments tried. Bring previous imaging or medical records.
At the consultation, the surgeon will examine you, discuss goals, and outline options including typical recovery of one to two weeks for desk work and four to six weeks before heavy lifting.
How will the test results change my breast surgery care plan?
In short
Test results at Jaipur Hospital directly shape your surgical plan. Abnormal blood values may delay surgery until corrected — for example, anaemia is treated to reduce transfusion risk. Uncontrolled blood sugar requires optimisation to lower infection rates. Positive viral markers need specific precautions. Imaging findings like a suspicious lump may change a cosmetic procedure to a diagnostic or oncological one.
In detail
The anaesthesia team uses results to select drugs and monitoring. Poor kidney or liver function alters drug dosing. Cardiac issues may need cardiology clearance. If mammography shows an abnormality, the surgeon may order a biopsy first and plan reconstruction after oncology input.
The operation time, hospital stay (daycare or one night), and technique may be adjusted. Every deviation from normal is weighed against the urgency and type of surgery.
A common belief
Patients often think tests are just a formality.
What actually happens
They are not. A high sugar level or a new lump on mammogram changes everything — from anaesthesia drugs to the very purpose of the operation. The surgeon cannot proceed safely without addressing these findings first.
Your next step at Jaipur Hospital
You will discuss each relevant result with your surgeon before a final plan is confirmed. Most corrections take days to weeks. Once cleared, scheduling proceeds.
What should I do if symptoms persist or worsen after breast surgery?
In short
If you notice increasing pain, spreading redness, fever, sudden swelling, or fluid leaking from the incision after breast surgery at Jaipur Hospital, contact the hospital immediately. These signs may indicate infection, haematoma, seroma, or wound breakdown. Do not wait for your next scheduled visit if something feels wrong. The surgical team is available to assess you promptly.
In detail
Some symptoms are expected during normal healing: bruising, tightness, mild soreness, a small amount of fluid on dressings, and temporary changes in nipple sensation. Shooting pains or tingling can occur for a few months.
However, worsening pain not relieved by prescribed medication, heat or spreading redness around the incision, a temperature above 38°C, a breast that becomes suddenly larger or harder, or an open wound needs urgent review.
Evidence shows complications such as seroma, infection, haematoma, skin flap necrosis, and capsular contracture can occur. Early detection allows simpler treatment — antibiotics for infection, aspiration for seroma, or surgical drainage for haematoma. Delaying care can lead to more complex problems.
A common belief
Some patients try to tough it out or wait for the next appointment.
What actually happens
That can turn a simple infection or fluid collection into a bigger problem. Early contact keeps treatment simple.
Your next step at Jaipur Hospital
Keep the hospital phone numbers handy. If you are unsure whether a symptom is normal, call the ward or the emergency department. Our 24×7 emergency department can evaluate you at any time. Attend all follow-up appointments so the surgeon can catch issues early.
How can I decide whether to seek advice about breast reduction?
In short
Consider seeking advice about breast reduction at Jaipur Hospital if large breasts cause back, neck, or shoulder pain, skin irritation under the breast fold, bra strap grooving, difficulty exercising, or if the size affects your quality of life. Reduction can be done for medical or cosmetic reasons. You should be in good health and not planning pregnancy soon, as surgery can affect breastfeeding.
In detail
Reduction removes excess tissue, fat, and skin. Techniques include liposuction for slight to moderate reduction, vertical (lollipop) for moderate reduction with sagging, and inverted-T (anchor) for maximum reduction and reshaping. Evidence shows reduction surgery relieves physical discomfort in most patients.
Insurance may cover it if medical necessity is documented — insurers like HDFC Ergo, Tata AIG, Max Bupa/Niva Bupa, and Care Health Insurance have covered it in some regions. Pre-authorisation and specific criteria apply.
Risks include scarring (anchor or lollipop patterns), changes in nipple sensation, asymmetry, and potential impact on breastfeeding. The surgeon will assess your breast shape, skin quality, and symptoms to recommend the technique.
A common belief
Some women wait years thinking it is only cosmetic.
What actually happens
In many cases, it is a medical procedure that insurance may cover when symptoms are documented.
Your next step at Jaipur Hospital
If you have symptoms or concerns, book a consultation at Jaipur Hospital. Bring any medical records of pain treatment or physiotherapy. The surgeon will evaluate medical necessity and give a typical cost range of ₹80,000 to ₹2,50,000. Insurance paperwork assistance is available.
What qualifications and experience should the treating clinician have for this procedure?
In short
Your breast surgery at Jaipur Hospital will be performed by a qualified plastic surgeon with specialised training in breast procedures. The surgeon holds an MCh or DNB in Plastic Surgery and is registered with the National Medical Commission. They have experience in augmentation, reduction, lift and reconstruction techniques.
In detail
Plastic surgery training in India includes a three year MCh or DNB after MS General Surgery, covering aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery.
The surgeon should be familiar with implant based and autologous reconstruction, different mastopexy patterns, reduction techniques including liposuction, vertical and inverted T patterns, and management of complications such as capsular contracture, seroma and flap issues.
Evidence highlights that autologous transfer requires greater technical expertise for microsurgical transfer.
The surgeon should participate in continuing medical education, be a member of professional bodies such as the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India, and have hospital privileges at a NABH accredited facility like Jaipur Hospital.
The anaesthesia team follows enhanced recovery protocols with opioid sparing medications and techniques to reduce nausea and vomiting. Nursing staff are trained in post operative breast surgery care including drain management and surgical bra fitting.
A common belief
Some clinics may offer breast surgery by doctors without formal plastic surgery training.
What actually happens
Plastic surgery requires three years of super speciality training after general surgery to master microsurgery, implant techniques and complication management. Always verify the surgeon's MCh or DNB qualification and hospital privileges.
Your next step at Jaipur Hospital
During your consultation at Jaipur Hospital, you can ask about the surgeon's specific experience with your planned procedure, number of cases performed, and complication rates. The hospital's Plastic Surgery department handles a range of breast surgeries. You will meet the surgeon before booking surgery.

Overview
Breast Surgery: what to know
What breast surgery is and how it works
Breast surgery at Jaipur Hospital covers cosmetic and reconstructive procedures that change the size, shape or position of the breast.
The main operations are:
- Breast augmentation to increase volume using implants or fat transfer
- Breast reduction to remove tissue and skin and relieve symptoms such as back pain
- Mastopexy (breast lift) to raise and reshape sagging breasts
- Breast reconstruction to rebuild the breast after mastectomy using implants or tissue flaps
Surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and usually takes one to three hours. Most patients go home the same day or stay one night in hospital.
The choice of procedure depends on your anatomy, your goals and any medical reasons such as discomfort from large breasts or changes after cancer treatment. Your surgeon will explain which technique suits you after examining you and discussing what you want to achieve.
Symptoms that may lead you to consider breast surgery and warning signs needing same-day care
- High fever
- Sudden severe pain
- Rapid swelling of one breast
- Redness spreading from incision
- Wound breakdown
People seek breast surgery for different reasons.
Large, heavy breasts can cause:
- Chronic back, neck and shoulder pain
- Skin irritation under the breast fold
- Bra strap grooving
- Difficulty with exercise
Sagging or loss of volume after pregnancy, weight change or ageing may affect how clothes fit and how you feel about your appearance. After mastectomy, reconstruction restores breast shape.
After any breast operation, it is normal to have bruising, tightness, swelling, soreness and a limited range of motion in the shoulders for the first few days. You may notice a small amount of fluid leaking from the incisions into gauze or drains. Nipple sensation can increase or decrease for a couple of months.
Shooting pains, tingling or strange skin sensations can occur for the first few months. Some asymmetry is common while each breast heals at its own rate.
Contact Jaipur Hospital on the same day if you develop a high fever, sudden severe pain not relieved by prescribed medication, rapid swelling of one breast, redness spreading from the incision, or any sign of wound breakdown. These can indicate infection, haematoma or other complications that need prompt assessment.
Causes of breast changes and who is at higher risk of complications
- about 10.6% Overall incidence
- 20.8% Saline implants at ten years
- 1% to 6.3% Polyurethane-coated implants
Breast size and shape change with puberty, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations and ageing. Hormonal factors and genetics also play a part. Some men develop enlarged breast tissue (gynaecomastia) and may seek reduction surgery.
Certain factors raise the risk of complications after implant surgery. Capsular contracture — a tightening of the scar tissue around the implant — has an overall incidence of about 10.6%.
Risk factors include:
- Smooth (rather than textured) implants
- Subglandular (above the muscle) placement
- Silicone-filled implants
- Previous radiotherapy to the breast
Textured implants, submuscular (under the muscle) placement and polyurethane-coated implants are associated with lower contracture rates. In studies, ten-year capsular contracture rates for saline implants reached 20.8% in augmentation, while polyurethane-coated implants showed rates as low as 1% to 6.3% depending on the study.
For reconstruction using acellular dermal matrix (ADM), meta-analyses report higher overall complication rates, seroma, infection and reconstructive failure compared with traditional submuscular expander or implant methods. ADM is associated with a lower rate of capsular contracture. Autologous (flap) reconstruction generally yields higher overall satisfaction than implant-based reconstruction.
Women who plan future pregnancy are usually advised to delay breast reduction because the surgery can affect breastfeeding ability.
How breast conditions are diagnosed: examination and tests
At your first visit, the surgeon takes a detailed history of your symptoms, medical background, previous surgeries and any family history of breast cancer.
A clinical examination assesses:
- Breast size
- Shape
- Skin quality
- Nipple position
- Any lumps or asymmetry
For cosmetic or reduction surgery, no routine imaging is required unless the examination finds a lump or you are over the age where screening mammography is recommended. If a lump or suspicious area is found, ultrasound or mammography is arranged through our in-house radiology department.
For breast reconstruction after cancer, the timing and method depend on the cancer stage, planned radiotherapy and your overall health. The surgical team coordinates with your oncologist and radiation oncologist to decide whether immediate or delayed reconstruction is appropriate.
No blood test or scan can diagnose the need for cosmetic breast surgery; the decision is based on your symptoms, examination findings and personal goals.
Non-surgical options and when surgery is advised
Do
- Physical symptoms persist
- Breast asymmetry causes distress
- Reconstruction desired after mastectomy
- Lump requires surgical biopsy
Not every breast concern needs an operation. For heavy breasts, a well-fitted supportive bra, physiotherapy for posture and core strengthening, and weight management can reduce pain and improve function. Pain relief with simple analgesics and skin care for irritation under the breast fold may help in the short term.
For gynaecomastia in men, treating any underlying hormonal cause or stopping medications that contribute can sometimes reduce breast tissue without surgery.
If you want larger breasts, external prostheses or padded bras give a temporary change without surgery. Fat transfer to the breast is a surgical option that uses your own tissue rather than an implant.
Surgery is usually advised when:
- Physical symptoms (back, neck, shoulder pain, skin infections, bra strap grooving) persist despite conservative measures and interfere with daily life.
- Breast asymmetry or deformity causes significant distress.
- Reconstruction is desired after mastectomy or injury.
- A lump or suspicious imaging finding requires surgical biopsy or excision.
Your surgeon will discuss the expected benefits, the typical recovery (desk work in one to two weeks, no heavy lifting for four to six weeks), the scar patterns (anchor-shaped or lollipop for reduction, inframammary or periareolar for augmentation) and the range of possible complications so you can decide what is right for you.
Preparing for breast surgery
Do
- Loose front-opening clothing
- Supportive sports bra without underwire
- Regular medicines in original packets
Before your operation you will attend a pre-anaesthesia check-up where the team reviews your medical history, current medicines and any allergies. Blood tests, a chest X-ray and an ECG are usually done to confirm you are fit for general anaesthesia.
Tell your surgeon about every tablet, supplement or herbal product you take; some blood-thinning medicines may need to be stopped a few days before surgery. You will be asked to fast from midnight on the night before the procedure.
On the day of surgery bring loose, front-opening clothing, a supportive sports bra without underwire, any regular medicines in their original packets, and an attendant who can stay with you and take you home. The hospital provides a surgical bra after the operation.
How breast surgery is done
- Admission and marking You are admitted and the surgical site is marked
- Operation under general anaesthesia Procedure takes one to three hours
- Recovery area You spend time in recovery before moving to a room or going home
Breast surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and usually takes one to three hours. The exact steps depend on the procedure you and your surgeon choose. For breast augmentation the surgeon places an implant (silicone gel or saline) or transfers fat from another part of your body to increase volume.
Breast reduction removes excess tissue, fat and skin to reduce size and relieve symptoms such as back pain; the incision pattern may be an anchor-shaped scar or a lollipop-shaped scar depending on the amount of tissue removed. Mastopexy (breast lift) raises and reshapes sagging breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue.
Breast reconstruction rebuilds the breast after mastectomy using implants or tissue flaps taken from your abdomen, back or thigh. Your surgeon will explain which technique suits your anatomy and goals. On the day of surgery you are admitted, the surgical site is marked, and you are taken to the modular operation theatre.
After the procedure you spend time in the recovery area before moving to a room or going home the same day.
Risks and possible complications of breast surgery
All operations carry some risk. Common early issues include bruising, swelling, tightness, a limited range of motion in the shoulders, soreness, a small amount of fluid leakage from incisions, and temporary changes in nipple sensation.
Capsular contracture, where scar tissue tightens around an implant, is the most frequent long-term complication after implant-based surgery and a common reason for reoperation; studies report an overall incidence of about 10.6%.
Risk factors for contracture include:
- Smooth implants
- Subglandular placement
- Silicone-filled implants
- Previous radiotherapy to the breast
Textured or polyurethane-coated implants and submuscular placement are associated with lower rates. In studies of implant reconstruction using acellular dermal matrix (ADM), total complication rates were higher than with traditional submuscular methods (15.4% vs 14.0%), with more seroma, infection and reconstructive failure. ADM was linked to a lower rate of capsular contracture.
Autologous flap reconstruction has a pooled complication rate of about 22% in large series, with nipple necrosis in 7% of cases. Two-stage expander-implant reconstruction showed a 52.8% overall complication rate in one comparative study, while direct-to-implant reconstruction had 16.7%. Nipple-sparing mastectomy carries a risk of locoregional recurrence (1.8%) and distant metastasis (2.2%). Your surgeon will discuss the risks that apply to your chosen procedure.
Recovery and aftercare after breast surgery
After surgery you will wear a surgical bra day and night for three to four weeks, removing it only to shower or wash it. You can shower two days after the operation; avoid soaking in a bathtub, pool or hot tub until the incisions have healed.
Sleep on your back with extra pillows for the first week; do not sleep on your stomach until your surgeon agrees. Side sleeping may start after three to four weeks, alternating sides at first. Start walking the night of surgery to reduce swelling and the risk of blood clots and constipation.
Upper-body stretching and range-of-motion exercises usually begin at three weeks. Most people can drive and return to desk work within one week once they are off prescription pain medication; heavy lifting should be avoided for four to six weeks. Bandages and drains, if used, are typically removed within the first week.
You will be seen in the outpatient department every one to two weeks for at least a month. Contact the hospital if you develop increasing redness, warmth, pus, fever, sudden swelling, severe pain not relieved by prescribed medication, or any other concern.
Results of breast surgery
Final breast shape and scar appearance continue to evolve for up to 12 months. You will begin to notice the final results around three months after surgery, with subtle changes continuing throughout the first year. Scars are swollen at first but usually fade to thin, slightly discoloured lines over one year; however, they may always be noticeable.
In studies, autologous breast reconstruction yields significantly higher overall satisfaction compared with implant-based reconstruction. Immediate breast reconstruction after mastectomy has become more common, and prosthetic (implant) methods are now the most frequently used technique. Capsular contracture can develop years later; a ten-year study of saline implants found a 20.8% incidence in augmentation patients.
The standard treatment for symptomatic contracture is surgical release or removal of the capsule. Breast reduction performed for medical reasons such as back pain provides lasting symptom relief in most patients. If you plan a future pregnancy, discuss timing with your surgeon because surgery can affect breastfeeding.
Cost and insurance for breast surgery in Jaipur
- ₹80,000 to ₹2,50,000 Overall range
- ₹79,600 to ₹1,40,000 Breast reduction (metro city data)
The typical price range for breast surgery in India is ₹80,000 to ₹2,50,000. The final cost depends on the type of procedure (augmentation, reduction, lift or reconstruction), the technique used, the choice of implants or flap, and the length of hospital stay.
For example, published data for breast reduction in a metro city show a range of roughly ₹79,600 to ₹1,40,000, with liposuction at the lower end and anchor-pattern reduction at the higher end. Jaipur Hospital is empanelled under RGHS, MAA Yojana and CGHS, and works with a panel of private insurers and TPAs.
Certain insurance companies may require medical necessity documentation and pre-authorisation for procedures such as breast reduction. The hospital can assist with insurance paperwork. Payment can be made by cash, card, UPI or through the empanelled schemes; ask the admissions team for an estimate before admission.
